Departure & POE
Luggage Hand Carried luggage You should hand carry all your immigration documents, passport, visa packet, etc. and other personal valuables that you will need during the trip or afraid they will be stolen from your checked luggage. Liquids are limited in all hand carried items to a 3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume); 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3.4 ounce (100ml) container size is a security measure. “Medically required liquids, such as baby formula and food, breast milk and medications are allowed in excess of 3.4 ounces in reasonable quantities for the flight. It is not necessary to place medically required liquids in a zip-top bag. However, you must tell the Transportation Security Officer that you have medically necessary liquids at the beginning of the screening checkpoint process. We recommend, but do not require, that medication be labeled to facilitate the security process.” “Prescription medications should be in their original containers with the doctor's prescription printed on the container. It is advised that you travel with no more than personal use quantities, a rule of thumb is no more than a 90 day supply. If your medications or devices are not in their original containers, you must have a copy of your prescription with you or a letter from your doctor. A valid prescription or doctors note is required on all medication entering the U.S.” Links for more information U.S. Customs and Border Protection Transportation Security Administration Checked luggage Check with your airlines, for their limits but usually, the first 2 bags are free and are limited to 23kg, (50 lbs) At your departure your luggage will be tagged to your final destination on your tickets. No matter what some workers tell you, YOU MUST PICK UP YOUR LUGGAGE AT THE POE, and carry it through U.S. customs inspection, then immediately after that there will be airport workers to take your luggage. There is no need to get new luggage tags There have been cases of people being told not to pick up their luggage until final destination, and once they get there the luggage is still at the POE, and at least in 1 case some things were missing by the time they got the luggage. If the luggage is lost, misrouted then the contact your airlines and they will locate it and send it to your final destination free of charge. POE (Port of Entry) Each POE is about the same, they all have the same rules/ regulations, on the airplane you will be given a U.S. customs and declaration form to fill out. Here are a few YouTube videos that will give you a GENERAL ideal but keep in mind that every airport is different and the process does change from time to time. So when in doubt ask questions at your POE/ airport https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2G-m60L_Ck0 Know Before You Visit Know Before You Go You have arrived |
